Field Visit to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve regarding recent tigress mortality-Naresh Kadyan

The Forest Department is yet to find the vehicle, which hit a tigress resulting in her death in Bandhavgarh National Park premises two days ago. Park Deputy Director KS Alawa informed that a forensic team examined several tourist vehicles on Friday.

State PCCF (Wildlife) RS Negi said that the forensic samples received from the vehicles would be tested at CCMB Hyderabad or Veterinary College Jabalpur. He however declined to have more details on the happenings at the park of Friday.

Meanwhile, the death of the tigress inside Bandhavgarh National Park took a new turn on Friday, as Congress Janpad president Umaria Gyanwati Singh alleged that the vehicle which hit the tigress, belonged to the son of a State Minister. She has also demanded a CBI inquiry in the incident. Speculations are also making rounds that a forest official's vehicle was involved in the accident of the big cat.

However, PWD Minister and in charge Minister for Umaria Nagendra Singh's son Shyamendra Singh, in a statement on Friday rejected the allegations stating that he has not been to Bandhavgarh National Park for four months and has termed the reports of his involvement in the death of the tigress as baseless and wrong.

Gyanwati Singh, while talking to The Pioneer over telephone on Friday informed that she had received the information of the tigress' death from a senior party leader from New Delhi.

Singh further added that she went to the park immediately, but she was allowed to enter only after half an hour. She claimed that even mediapersons were allowed entry after a while and claimed that the tigress had died after being hit by a vehicle but the park staff tried to give a new twist to the incident, by putting the dead tigress inside the water source.

The Janpad president further added that a forest guard was also made to go in the water in the presence of forest and police officials but the water barely reached his knees, then how come a tigress could drown in the water as earlier claimed by the forest staff, she argued.

Singh categorically alleged that the park had tried to hush up the matter, as Minister Nagendra Singh's son was involved in the incident. "Agar koi gharib ka beta hota to usko turant jail me daal dete," she said. She dragged park security under scanner by alleging that a vehicle entered inside the park before them without making any official entry in the register. She even claimed that according to her, police has been involved in tigress' death at the park for the first time and also demanded for a CBI inquiry into the matter.

However, speculations were also making rounds that a forest official's vehicle was also seen at the spot, where tigress was seen before death. Locals claimed that forest official's vehicle was showing damage and the damage was also visible in trees and a ladder at the site

Tigress death: MP orders CID probe

Bandhavgarh resort sealed by dist admn

The Bandhavgarh National Park could pay a heavy price for the recent tigress death as the central government is reportedly pondering over discontinuing financial assistance to the park. This was discussed at a Secretary-level meeting of the Forest and Tourism Department at New Delhi on Friday. Besides, the tigress death case report was not submitted to the State PCCF on Friday.

Officials of the Central Gvernment have taken the matter of tigress death very seriously. Sources claimed that the matter was discussed in the Secretary-level meeting of Union Tourism and Forest Ministries on Friday. It was decided at the meeting that as a stringent measure, the central assistance given to the Bandhavgarh National Park could also be scrapped.

Besides, it was also discussed that certain guidelines had been issued for tourism activities inside tiger reserves but it was said that the guidelines were flouted at Bandhavgarh and a caution was also issued for sticking to the guidelines. Besides, the officials reportedly also discussed that the park officials have been negligent in the tigress death case.

Meanwhile, the report of the inquiry conducted by the Additional PCCF Dharmendra Shukla could not be handed to State PCCF AK Dubey on Friday. Interestingly, both the officers remained tight lipped about the matter.

Dubey late in the evening claimed that he was yet to receive the report and Shukla at the same time claimed that he was busy preparing the report. However, sources of the Forest Department informed that Shukla had met the PCCF afternoon on Friday and had briefed him about the contents of the report. However sources close to the park administration at Bandhavgarh have claimed that the recent probe has zeroed in on the culprits and things would be made clear within few days.

NAGPUR: In a new twist to the controversy over the death of a tigress in Bandhavgarh Reserve, TOI learns the incident occurred after a vehicle hit the wild cat. Sources confirmed that the vehicle that hit the tigress was allegedly owned by a resort run by PWD minister of MP, Nagendra Singh.

A close relative of the minister's son was in the vehicle when it inadvertently hit the tigress. Park officials have detained three vehicles. A tourist had told TOI that the death happened due to a collision with a vehicle. Naresh Kadyan, master trainer of Animal Welfare Board of India and a representative of International Organisation for Animal Protection in India, has issued notice to the chief wildlife warden of MP under section 55 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

He has also demanded the sacking of the minister. Kadyan claims that it was Singh's son who was in the vehicle that dashed against the tigress.

"Officials are trying to hush up the matter," he said from Delhi. "The minister's son and others have violated the law. Yet the police failed to lodge an FIR against them for violation of section 9, read with 51 of Wildlife Protection Act along with section 428-429 of IPC specifying criminal conspiracy against wild animals or any relevant legislations. The chief wildlife warden has failed to perform his duties."
